Abby.

There’s something about being asked to do the wedding hair of someone you’ve known for years, and Abby’s wedding was one of those occasions that felt particularly special.

I’d previously worked with Abby in the corporate hair world many years ago, so when she got in touch and asked me to be part of her wedding morning, it was such a joy to be able to say yes! Getting to share such an important moment in someone’s life is one of the things I love most about being a bridal hairstylist.

A Sunny September Morning at Knebworth House

Abby and her bridal party got ready at the beautiful Knebworth House in Hertfordshire, where they had a quaint little cottage on site to enjoy the morning together.

It was an early start, but we were welcomed by the most glorious sunshine on that September morning. The cottage was filled with excitement, laughter and all the little moments that make a wedding morning so special.

Joining Abby were her sister, her two soon-to-be sisters-in-law, her mum, her future mother-in-law and her two gorgeous daughters. With lots of hair to work through and a busy morning ahead, I brought my lovely assistant Lauren along to help everything run smoothly.

Having an extra pair of hands on a wedding morning can make such a difference. It allows us to keep everything calm, organised and on schedule, so the bride can relax and enjoy getting ready with her favourite people.

Beautiful Bridesmaid Updos and Bespoke Bridal Hair

For the bridesmaids, the girls chose variations of elegant hair-up styles, with different takes on the classic bun. This created a beautiful, coordinated look while still allowing each hairstyle to have its own individual details.

I love this approach to bridesmaid hair because it keeps the overall bridal party look timeless and cohesive without making every hairstyle identical.

For Abby herself, we created a gorgeous half-up, half-down bridal hairstyle, featuring neat, smooth twists for an elegant and polished finish.

We added one row of hair extensions to give her hair that extra volume, helping us achieve the fullness needed for her desired style. Extensions can be a lovely option for brides who want a little more body and shape to their wedding hair, even when they aren't looking for additional length.

Abby's finished look was the perfect balance of elegance and softness, complementing her natural beauty and the overall feel of her wedding day.

The Little Moments That Make a Wedding Morning Special

One of my favourite parts of being a wedding hairstylist is getting to witness the personal moments that happen while everyone is getting ready.

While Abby was in my chair, her sister had arranged the most thoughtful collection of gifts. These included a scrapbook filled with memories from their childhood, alongside heartfelt letters from members of the bridal party and friends.

Moments like these are so beautiful to witness. Among all the excitement of getting ready, there are often little pauses filled with happy tears, laughter and memories. It's such a privilege to be there, sharing in those moments while helping a bride prepare for one of the biggest days of her life.

And, of course, we couldn't forget the little ones!

Three-year-old River looked absolutely adorable with her beautiful Elsa-inspired plaits, which complemented the gorgeous dress Abby had chosen for her. Her youngest daughter was still a little too young to have enough hair for a full hairstyle, but she was every bit as lovely as her big sister.

Finishing on Time and Getting Abby Into Her Dress

With lots of hair and an early start, we had a tight schedule to stick to. However, as always, Lauren and I worked together to keep everything running smoothly, and we finished bang on time.

The girls were then able to enjoy some beautiful pyjama photographs in the sunshine before getting dressed for the celebrations ahead.

One of the final touches was helping Abby position her cathedral-length veil. And honestly, she looked incredible!

I love seeing a bride's whole look come together. After all the planning, the conversations about hairstyles and the little finishing details, that moment when the veil goes in is often when everything suddenly feels real.

Abby's photographs are simply stunning, and seeing the finished images brought back so many lovely memories of the morning.

Thank you so much, Abby, for trusting me and Lauren with your wedding hair. It was wonderful to be part of your day, and I'm so grateful you chose us to help you get ready for such an important occasion.
